Altura Wins $6.5 Million Contract from Dartmouth-Hitchcock MedicalCenter in New Hampshire

Altura Communication Solutions, a leading nationwide provider ofcommunications networks and services, has been awarded aseven-year, $6.5 million contract from Dartmouth-Hitchcock MedicalCenter, Lebanon, N.H., to provide advanced telecommunicationsapplications, services and support.

Altura will migrate the medical center's existing Fujitsu 9600PBX network to Avaya Enterprise Class IP Solutions (ECLIPS),including Avaya MultiVantage™ Software, enabling the medical centerto reduce communication costs, enhance productivity and implementadvanced applications.

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, named one of the tophospitals in the country for its record of excellence in patientcare and operational efficiency, has been an Altura client for 12years. The medical center decided to award the contract to Alturabecause of its outstanding service, technology and applications,according to Peter Johnson, senior vice president, informationservices.

"Altura gives us the flexibility to transition to newtechnologies at our own pace. We will gradually replace our 14F9600s with Avaya MultiVantage Software, Avaya Media Servers andMedia Gateways, and add advanced applications such as IP telephony,thus mitigating the convergence risk while maximizing our return oninvestment," Johnson said. "To support our mission-criticaloperations, we wanted to partner with an organization dedicated toproviding highly reliable products, comprehensive solutions andapplications, and that is easy to do business with. Altura was theonly solutions provider that met our criteria."

Altura and Avaya have entered into a technology, sales andservice agreement under which Avaya is developing interoperabilitysoftware that will allow Altura customers to transition to AvayaMultiVantage Software, Avaya Media Servers and Avaya Media Gatewaysfrom their Fujitsu 9600 networks. Altura currently supports morethan 6,000 Fujitsu communication systems in the United States andwill continue to do so, while at the same time offering theopportunity for its customers to migrate to advanced applications,including IP telephony.

IP telephony enables voice and data collaboration over aconverged IP, or packet-based, network. IP telephony can helpcompanies reduce costs and enhance productivity through greatermobility and next generation, converged applications. For example,with IP telephony, key workplace tools, such as voicemail, email,faxes and contact databases, all can be accessed and managed fromany device - such as a personal digital assistant or a laptop.
