Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider ofcommunications networks and services for businesses, todayannounced that it has implemented its 10,000th IP Office customer.Avaya has been chosen to provide IP Office for McConechy's TyreService Group, Scotland's largest independent tyre operator. Theconverged communication system using Internet Protocol (IP)telephony is being installed by Exchange Communications atMcConechy's head office and 53 tyre depots across Scotland. It willprovide McConechy's with faster, more efficient phone and ITcommunications between depots. Since its launch in 2002, IP Officehas been deployed globally to customers such as the internationalrock star, Rod Stewart, Tower Travel Management, an Illinois-basedtravel agency, and German messaging specialists, MediaBEAM.

IP Office allows McConechy's to connect itsgeographically-dispersed depots from Kirk Wall in Orkney toStranraer in the south of Scotland and transfer both data and phonecalls across a single, converged network using IP telephony. IPtelephony is estimated to help McConechy's to reduce call costs by25 per cent. Also, McConechy's is looking to IP telephony toenhance productivity and improve business performance.

Donald Carmichael, operations director for McConechy's TyreService said: "We estimate that using a single IP-based convergednetwork in this way will reduce our phone bills by 25 per cent, allowing us to make considerable cost savings. Improvedcommunications between all depots and head office will also enableus to speed up processes and ultimately allow us to provide abetter service to our customers."

IP Office will replace McConechy's existing TDM-based telephonysystem. The new network will enable depots to work closer with thepurchasing and accounts departments based at head office, therebylinking processes and reducing the time taken for key activitiessuch as stock control. Improved inter-site communication enableshead office and branch staff to communicate directly savingresources and increasing the efficiency of operations. Otherbenefits include central management for IT and telephony which iseasier to control by the IT resource at head office.

With the new system in place, tyre depots will be able toinstantly access accurate stock information updated throughout theday to provide improved customer service and fulfilment of orders.Currently, stock level data is only uploaded by the depots at theend of the day and therefore becomes out of date very quickly.

Dave Robinson, vice president of Avaya's Global Small andMedium-sized Business Solutions (SMBS) Solutions Group said:"McConechy's will use IP Office to facilitate better workingpractices and to cut costs while providing a base for futuredevelopments such as CRM. From the cost savings achieved, it hasbeen forecast to pay for itself within three years."

Tom Sime, managing director of Exchange Communicationscommented: "McConechy's was looking for an 'all-in-one' system toimprove communication and business processes across multiple sites.IP Office will fulfil these requirements and provide McConechy'swith a competitive edge over other tyre service companies."

Exchange Communications has provided McConechy's withconsultancy services and is implementing the Avaya IP Officesystem. IP Office 406 will be implemented at the head office in Ayrand IP Office 400 will be installed in the majority of itsbranches. Also, the head office has been equipped with Avayatelephone handsets. The roll out programme has commenced and thesolution is being installed in McConechy's branches.
