Avaya Appoints Dinesh Malkani as New Managing Director for Korea

Avaya (NYSE: AV), a leading global provider of communicationsnetworks and services for businesses, today announced that it hasnamed Dinesh Malkani managing director in Korea. Malkani will focuson leading Avaya's operation in Korea where he will be responsiblefor driving the company's growth in the country. Malkani'sappointment is effective immediately.

Malkani will focuson leading Avaya's operation in Korea where he will be responsiblefor driving the company's growth in the country. Malkani'sappointment is effective immediately.

Malkani's appointment to the post of managing director in Koreawill lead Avaya to strengthen its foothold in the Korean market,particularly in the two growth markets — IP convergence businesswhich includes IP telephony, IP Contact Centre, Data and Wirelessand the CRM business which primarily includes software solutionsfor Multi Channel Contact Centers. He will help Avaya furtherdevelop and expand sales and business opportunities in Korea.

The end goal is toensure our customers fully realize the benefits of Convergence andCRM and become more profitable and competitive. With my regionalexperience with Avaya and other IT companies in Asia Pacific, Iwill help Avaya Korea gear up its customer-focused businessstrategy in these two growth areas", said Malkani.

Prior to being named Avaya Korea's managing director, Malkaniwas the Regional Director for the CRM and Contact Center businessfor the ASEAN and India region. He has been based in the regionalHQ in Singapore for 6 years out of a total of 8 years with thecompany. Under his charge, Avaya became the No.1 vendor for callcenter and interaction CRM solutions business, chalking upimpressive market share gains against more entrenched players likeGenesys and Aspect.

Malkani has worked for 10 years in the Contact Centre and CRMspace in different roles and responsibilities and has beenassociated with the tremendous growth of Avaya's business in theregion. He is a Computer Engineer and holds a MBA degree from theState University of New York, Buffalo.

For Korea, Avaya maintained its marketleadership in ACD and outbound dialing markets, taking 71.3 percentand 42.6 percent of market share respectively.

Avaya ranked number two worldwide with 22 percent of the overallIP telephony market according to Synergy Research Group's report onEnterprise Voice over IP (VoIP) for the third calendar quarter of2002. James Haensly, who has acted in the capacity of Avaya Koreamanaging director for the past few months will return to hisfull-time role of CTO and Regional Director, Applications SolutionsSales, to support the Territory CRM teams in Asia Pacific.
