Avaya Appoints John Sharpe As New Sales Director For Its ConvergedSystems & Applications Business In Ireland

Avaya Inc. Sharpe will focus on helping businesses in Ireland gainthe benefits of IP telephony and associated applications such ascontact centres, unified communication and services. IP telephonycan help businesses reduce costs and enhance productivity throughgreater functionality and mobility. Sharpe's appointment iseffective immediately.

Avaya Inc. (NYSE: AV), a leading global provider ofcommunications networks and services for businesses, todayannounced the appointment of John Sharpe to the newly-created roleof sales director for its Converged Systems and Applicationsbusiness in Ireland. Sharpe will focus on helping businesses inIreland gain the benefits of IP telephony and associatedapplications such as contact centres, unified communication andservices. IP telephony can help businesses reduce costs and enhanceproductivity through greater functionality and mobility. Sharpe'sappointment is effective immediately.

Reporting to Enzo Viscito, head of sales for Avaya's ConvergedSystems and Applications business in the UK and Ireland, Sharpewill lead Avaya's operations in Ireland where he will beresponsible for driving the company's growth in the country as partof the strategy announced in July 2002. He will develop sales viadirect and indirect channels, working closely with key Avayacustomers and accredited business partners. The creation of therole underpins Avaya's multi-channel strategy.

Enzo Viscito, head of sales for Avaya's Converged Systems andApplications business in the UK and Ireland said: "John'sexperience of broadband and wireless systems as well as the Irishand international markets makes him ideally suited to thisposition. He will be able to help businesses understand, and mostimportantly deliver the benefits of converged communication — fromreducing cost to gaining competitive advantage."

Prior to joining Avaya, Sharpe worked at Broadband Solutions, aDublin-based telecommunications consultancy, where he was managingdirector from April 2001 until his appointment at Avaya. Duringthis time he established a business distributing optical wirelessequipment, in addition to providing consultancy services to avariety of organisations including CIE, Tyco, Alcatel and GalwayCounty Council.

Sharpe has over 18 years telecommunications experience, havingheld management and sales roles at: Formus Communications; MCIWorldcom; Sprint International; Cable and Wireless; GPTCommunications; and Transtel Communications.

Sharpe obtained an Honours Diploma in Applied Physics from theDublin Institute of Technology.
