  • Seoul Auto Gallery gives sales agents and customers real-time access to warehousing, inspection, transaction, insurance and delivery information through wireless PDAs and desktop PCs; Innovative wireless IP telephony network with a total of 4,800 lines sets new standard in car sales systems in Korea

Avaya Korea Ltd. announced that it will build the largest IP telephony network in Korea for Seoul Auto Gallery, the largest auto complex in the country. The network will set a new service standard by allowing customers and sales agents to access real-time information such as pricing and features as they move among cars on the show floor.

Avaya Korea Ltd., the Korean subsidiary of Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of communications networks and services for businesses, today announced that it will build the largest IP telephony network in Korea for Seoul Auto Gallery, the largest auto complex in the country. The network will set a new service standard by allowing customers and sales agents to access real-time information such as pricing and features as they move among cars on the show floor.

Car dealerships are among the most stimulating and fast-paced sales environments, and Seoul Auto Gallery sets a new competitive edge in Korea with the introduction of wireless IP telephony network based on Avaya IP telephony solutions. With this project, Seoul Auto Gallery will be equipped with a one-stop sales system, which allows it to manage all sales processes much more easily using PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants). The introduction of IP telephony network will allow Seoul Auto Gallery to improve productivity and efficiency, making communication more effective.

The IP telephony network project for Seoul Auto Gallery will be carried out jointly by Avaya, KT, LG CNS, and Locus. Avaya's IP telephony solution including Avaya IP Softphone for Pocket PC will be deployed in the two buildings of Seoul Auto Gallery with a gross floor area of 22 thousand pyong (about 72 thousand square meters), which will be the largest IP telephony network in Korea, supporting 4,800 lines and 2,000 IP users.

In particular, the Avaya IP Softphone for Pocket PC will give sales agents full mobility, allowing sales agents to check car information through PDAs while communicating through IP softphone as if they were in the office. The introduction of IP softphone, which enables communication from any place on the show floor, will ensure mobility and continuity of communication while enhancing productivity.

The introduction of a wireless IP telephony network will enable Seoul Auto Gallery to provide customers with the latest information about cars for sale virtually everywhere in its showrooms. All the information about sales processes from warehousing, inspection, transaction, and insurance to delivery will be stored in a database by each process and be managed through wireless PDAs and desktop PCs in real time, thereby enhancing business efficiency dramatically.

Jin-gon Lee, manager of Seoul Auto Gallery, said, "Avaya's leading position in the IP telephony market was surely one of the decisive factors but we chose Avaya as our IP telephony solution provider mainly because Avaya IP Softphone for PDAs showed great excellence during the demonstration and evaluation process." He added, "Wireless IP telephony network will improve our business efficiency and customer satisfaction significantly by allowing our staff to manage work processes much more efficiently and to communicate with each other more freely virtually at any time, any place in the area."

Do-hyun Kim, senior director of LG CNS, which provides system implementation and consulting for this project, said, "This is a very innovative project since it introduces a wireless IP telephony network in an auto sales system for the first time in Korea. The Seoul Auto Gallery project will be a case to be benchmarked and modeled in various industrial sectors."

With this largest IP telephony network project, Avaya Korea expects to be better positioned in the local IP telephony market. Dinesh Malkani, managing director of Avaya Korea, said, "Numerous companies in the world have already successfully deployed Avaya's IP telephony, and more and more companies in Korea are recognizing the benefits that IP telephony will bring, and considering the move toward IP telephony." He added, "As companies are realizing the benefits of IP telephony like various advanced communication features, reduced costs, and enhanced business efficiency, there will be even greater demand for IP telephony solutions in Korea."
