Avaya Implements Virtual Private Network for BusinessPartners inthe Caribbean and Latin America

The VPNwill help Avaya BusinessPartners throughout the region to lowerrisk and improve results by leveraging the benefits of theInternet, such as anytime/anywhere access at a reduced cost.

BusinessPartners will also improve their knowledge of Avaya'sVPN solutions since it forms part of their company's communicationsinfrastructure. This first hand experience with the products willallow BPs to better serve their customers. "To be an AvayaBusinessPartner and at the same time a user of the solutions is anattractive new way to qualify us. We are now trained andexperienced in the features and functionalities and this allows usto better integrate the solutions to the business needs of ourcustomers," said Mario Da Ros, Systems Integrator manager forProlan.

As the line between voice and data infrastructure diminishes,the protection of converged communications is becoming a keycompetitive factor to companies. "VPN solutions protect customers'network from hackers' attack and assure the confidentiality and theintegrity of communication through a shared IP (Internet Protocol)network," says Fábio Melchert, solutions manager, Avaya Brazil."Companies want that their calls to be safe, and they want toprotect their voice and electronic messaging, including theirwireless LAN, in or out of the office. Avaya VPN solutions arescalable, interoperable and easy to install - and are ideal for anysize of office," adds Melchart.

A VPN uses a shared Internet Protocol (IP) network and employsuser authentication, tunneling and encryption technology totransmit data securely. VPNs are generally more cost effective thanmore traditional private networks because they use a shared IPnetwork instead of dedicated private lines. VPNs works with dialedor high speed access (cable, DSL) using high-speed links to improveconnection performance.

The project includes the Avaya VPNremote® Client software thatoffers an easy and transparent VPN network integration with anytelecom network configuration. The Avaya VPN gateways are based inthe ICSA patterns for performance and interoperability, offeringsafe end-to-end connection among locations and remote users.
