Avaya Launches Cost-effective Solution for Businesses WithConferencing Needs of Up To 60 ports in Asia-Pacific

Any company that spends US$850 per month or more on conferencingservices will find that the Avaya ACS 60 pays for itself in twelvemonths or less. According to Spectel Inc., a world leader inconferencing solutions, the typical ROI (Return on Investment) foran ACS 60 is six months or less.

The audio conferencing system also works with Avaya's OEM(Original Equipment Manufacturer) product, DataXchange1,a web conferencing tool. This can be integrated with the ACS, orused as a stand-alone web conferencing application. DataXchangeallows participants of audio conferencing to share data via theInternet in real time, providing users a robust, integratedconferencing experience.

"These two products are best in class, offering comprehensivefeatures that make in-house audio conferencing affordable andconvenient for any company which needs conferencing capacities ofup to 60 ports," said Sunny Shen, Product Manager, AvayaAsia-Pacific. ACS 60 is part of a range of products comprising ACS500 and ACS 1100 aimed at larger enterprises, which require moreconferencing ports.

To date, Avaya has shipped over 250 systems and over 10,000ports worldwide. "With its low cost and fast payback, ACS 60 willopen the market up to companies which previously had to go tocostly service bureaus for the same features and functions that ACScan provide."

Atmos Energy, a US distributor of pure gas, installed Avaya'sACS solution and estimates that "the Avaya ACS will save ourcompany US$30,000-45,000 the first year," says Sandy Peters,Manager, Telecommunications Services for Atmos Energy. "We wereusing a service provider before we purchased the ACS; the rateswere higher and we had to pay cancellation fees."

Besides the "hard-cost" savings from eliminating travel andaccommodation expenses, more companies in Asia-Pacific weredemanding audio conferencing as an alternative to business travelin the wake of the SARS outbreak recently.

"We have observed up to 40 per cent increases in audioconferencing among service providers in the Asia Pacific from Marchto June. This has led companies of all sizes to re-assess theircurrent audio conferencing strategy and see what improvements andcost savings are available," said Shen.

According to a study conducted by Organization ResourcesCounselors Inc in April 2003, 45.2 per cent of 325 companiessurveyed had banned all non-essential travel to and from Singaporedue to SARS2. In Hong Kong, that figure was even higher,standing at 53.2 per cent. "In the event of a recurrence of such acrisis or the occurrence of any other crisis for that matter,companies need to be ready to tackle any business disruption theymay encounter. ACS 60 and DataXchange are a natural solution," saidShen.
