Avaya Inc. (NYSE: AV), a leading global provider of communications networks and services for businesses, today launched its Integrated Stackable Telephony System (ISTS), for fully integrated IP telephony, IP switching and routing in Europe.

The Source, a new and unique training centre based at Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield, UK will use the flexibility of the ISTS to provide enhanced IT and telephony services to businesses and retailers both inside Meadowhall and across the UK. The Source has been developed through funding by British Land, Meadowhall's landlord and public money from Objective 1, ERDF, Yorkshire Forward and UK Online.

The Integrated Stackable Telephony System is the first, fully converged product available that has been designed specifically to meet the needs of medium-sized businesses and branch offices of larger organisations while reducing total cost of ownership.

Mark Higgins, IT manager at Meadowhall said: "The Integrated Stackable Telephony System will be used to link the new retail training centre to the main Meadowhall Shopping Centre, enabling us to share one voice and data system which will reduce call charges."

Avaya and its business partner, PowerDial, will provide the voice and data infrastructure in the new training centre that will link to the main shopping centre using IP telephony for calls between the two sites. PowerDial will be implementing the Avaya ISTS and the Avaya Unified Communication Center, which provides seamless access to communications tools, business applications, directories and transactions, in the new centre prior to its opening in February.

The Source will use ISTS to provide additional services to the retailers at Meadowhall. These services can include voice messaging, voice recording and multiple voice conferences, of up to six people. IP telephony will allow The Source to easily move and deploy converged communications devices such as IP soft phones or hard phones, supporting its training programmes and future growth.

Brooks Borcherding, vice-president of Avaya's Converged Systems and Applications business in EMEA said: "Avaya's Integrated Stackable Telephony System delivers sophisticated IP telephony through a simple, easy to manage converged system now with flexibility to meet the future communication needs of successful companies like Meadowhall. We believe companies will lower their total cost of ownership through simpler administration, management and deployment while reducing costs from a single, integrated voice and data system. In summary, Avaya has combined its traditional heritage with the benefits of IP to create the world's best IP telephony system."

Suitable for companies with 50 to 450 terminals, the Integrated Stackable Telephony System is easy to install and maintain. As a converged voice and data network, it simplifies network management instead of having separate voice and data systems. The system can be deployed in stand-alone mode or in remote office configuration for a multi-location enterprise. Its stackable architecture allows companies to migrate and scale the system up and down, as they need more or less lines or functionality. For example, in a retail environment the system can be adapted to suit seasonal fluctuations in sales, to deliver a rapid return on investment.

Customers can use a mixture of analogue and digital handsets, as well as IP hard and softphones. The switch has multiple trunking options, both IP and circuit-based. It includes Avaya MultiVantage software to provide customer relationship management and contact centre applications to users.

The Avaya Integrated Stackable Telephony System will be available from authorised Avaya business partners including Crane and NV3. The Integrated Stackable System will be available from 25,000 for 50 ports. It will be available in: the UK, Ireland, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Italy, Sweden and Russia.

The integrated system consists of: Avaya MultiVantage software; the Avaya S8300 Media Server; the Avaya G700 Media Gateway; the Avaya P330 Stackable Switching System; all linked together via the eight Gbps Octaplane stacking bus; and managed with the Avaya VisAbility Management Suite.
Notes to editors
The Integrated Stackable Telephony System has multiple trunking options, ISDN BRI, PRI and IP. Also, the ISTS supports advanced QSIG signalling on ISDN and IP providing organisations with feature transparency between sites.

Functionality includes: Power over Ethernet, meaning phones do not need to be powered locally; multi-layer quality of service classification and enforcement, allowing voice communication to be prioritised; scalability; WAN access routing, so that a separate WAN router is not required; advanced call distribution; and customer relationship management software.

The Integrated Stackable Telephony Solution uses Avaya's MultiVantage call processing software and hence can be configured as a full function Call centre converged PBX. The contact centre application suite is now available on a stackable converged IP platform that supports third party applications that have already been developed for MultiVantage or Definity.
