Avaya Launches Solutions for Business Continuity in Region to HelpEnterprises in Asia Pacific Reduce Cost, Lower Risk and GrowRevenues

There are new risks facing a new business world. Increasinglyso, as Asia Pacific enterprises gear up to meet the demands ofeffective business communications, companies must reduce cost,lower risk and grow revenues to survive the current harsh economicenvironment. Avaya has introduced to the region, three newsolutions that help address these business continuity concerns:

  • Avaya Communication Manager
  • Avaya C460 Converged Multilayer Switch
  • Avaya Security Gateways

A recent survey by industry analyst firm Gartner indicates that94 percent of businesses and organizations either have or plan tohave a disaster recovery program in place. Gartner concludes,however, that according to the data gathered, current disasterpreparation processes are not in place uniformly to the extent theyshould be.*

Ten years ago, the Internet was used by more segmented groups.By the end of 2003, IDC AP** expects there to be more than 165million Internet users and 25 million mobile Internet users in APalone. Businesses have increasingly incorporated Internettechnologies into their core business systems to improvecommunications between employees, responsiveness to customers andintegration with suppliers. This increased connectivity betweenpeople and organizations coupled with natural disasters, physicaland cyber terrorism, external hacking, and internal sabotageincrease the possibility of interruptions to businessoperations.

Avaya Communication Manager — Open, scalable and securetelephony
The Avaya Communication Manager is a next generation Avaya callprocessing software that delivers open, scalable, highly reliabletelephony with enhanced security features. It is able to centralisecall processing and administration functions onto powerful serverswhile at the same time extending the full breadth of applicationsto survivable gateways at other locations. It also supports newdistance insensitive applications like Avaya IP Softphone and AvayaIP Agent in a distributed Call Center environment. In addition, itprovides interconnection of both traditional analog, digital, andIP communication devices in a single communications environment.Advanced security features, using Access Security Gateway (ASG)embedded security software based on Data Encryption Standard (DES)encryption algorithm, support 911 emergency services, maliciouscall tracking, and built-in protection against toll fraud.

Avaya C460 Converged Multilayer Switch —Convergence-enabled to support IP telephony
The Avaya C460 Converged Multilayer Switch is a converged wiringcloset solution for mid to large enterprises. It is a fullyredundant, high-density IP switch. 192FE/PoE or 48GE interfaces,64Gps fabric, wire-speed L3. Other features include a modular IPtelephony platform powered by Avaya Communication Manager,integrated management of voice and data, reduced IP telephonydeployment costs, high-capacity, redundant power for large IPtelephony deployments, and intelligent VoIP management: whichautomatically detects IP phones and configures them into a voiceVLAN. High-availability platform designed for low-cost,fault-tolerant configuration. Increased security. 802.1Xauthentication prevents unauthorized access to the network, whileMultilayer Access Control Lists and MAC security provide granularaccess control to network applications and ports.

Avaya Security Gateways — Comprehensive integratedsecurity for IP telephony
The Avaya Security Gateways provide an integrated firewall,site-to-site VPN, remote access, and QoS protection for convergencenetworks, which enables enterprises to deploy better secured mobileworkforce solutions combining voice and data services. It alsofeatures integrated security for Avaya Communication Manager VoIP,VoIP firewall/VPN and is fully interoperable with AvayaCommunication Manager H.323 VoIP. Designed to enable mobility, itincludes Telecommuter VoIP/data access using SOHO convergencegateways, and secures IP Softphone PCs and PDAs for road warriors.Licensed capacity lowers entry cost and provides easy upgrades,while PCMCIA slots provide open, low-cost expansioncapabilities.
