Avaya Inc., (NYSE: AV), a leading global provider ofcommunications networks and services for businesses, todayannounced plans to incorporate an automated Main Distribution Frameenhancement, the Telcordia™ OSMINE Services Process, in its netSet™Remote Provisioning System for Avaya Connectivity Solutions. Whencompleted, the OSMINE software will provide an interface for netSetto the Telcordia™ FOMS (Frame Operations Management System). TheFOMS software establishes a link to a company's Order Entrysystems.

The Avaya netSet™ product family uses software andremote-control cross-connect technology to enable ILECs toautomatically perform key tasks involving the management ofcross-connected lines in Central Office distributing frames.

The Telcordia FOMS-NetSet interface will send service ordersdirectly to the netSet™ cross-connect switch to add, move, test, ordisconnect circuits. This will eliminate the manual data entryprocesses normally associated with cross-connecting services in aService Provider's network, thus reducing operating costs andimproving the accuracy of database records.

When integration of the OSMINE process is complete, Avaya willprovide network "flow-through" provisioning to improve operationsefficiency within the networks of its customers. Eighty percent ofthe U.S. telecommunications networks depend on operations supportsystems (OSS) software developed and maintained by Telcordia. Themajor local exchange carriers already manage their networks usingthese systems. The Telcordia OSMINE process enhances networkequipment compatibility and interoperability with TelcordiaOSSs.

Chip Baines, Avaya general manager, ExchangeMAX Cabling Systems, said, "The beauty of this is that our netSet Remote ProvisioningSystem solution has already given Service Providers a proven way todramatically reduce the costs associated with physically moving andchanging cross-connects for voice and data services, and now, withthis additional 'link', incremental savings will be realized bythose support groups who manage customer orders."

Telcordia FOMS analyzes service order and work order facilityassignment data (to determine network unit connectivity) andcreates "connection packets" to send to the Avaya NetSet system.Telcordia FOMS is a component of the Telcordia™ SWITCH® System, andpart of the Telcordia Provisioning and Activation Suite.

"By providing flow-through solutions between OSSs, OSMINE makesit easier for service providers to provision and monitor featuresand services, minimizing the need for manual operations andimproving the value of their network," said Dennis Tinley, vicepresident, Customer Solutions, Telcordia Technologies, Inc. "Bycompleting the OSMINE process, Avaya will be better able toseamlessly integrate NetSet into carrier networks, improving thecarrier's operational efficiencies."
