(NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of communications networks and services for businesses, has announced the successful installation of its wireless LAN (WLAN) solution at the Abu Dhabi Hilton Hotel, the base of FIFA operations for the FIFA World Youth Championship 2003 (U-20) which started on 27 November, 2003 in Abu Dhabi.

The installation of Avaya's WLAN was completed two weeks before the championship started, and has transformed the building into FIFA's temporary headquarters for the event. Approximately 120 FIFA staff members are using the wireless network to access important information, e-mail and other requirements for up to 17 hours per day during this exciting tournament, which concludes with the final match on 19 December, 2003. Avaya's Dubai office is providing telephone support for technical issues relating to Avaya's solutions throughout the event. Once the championship ends, the network will be disassembled and re-used for other FIFA events to be held in 2004 and onwards. It will also be used for the 2004 Olympics in Greece.

Doug Gardner, FIFA World Cup Project Director at Avaya, said: "Wireless networks are flexible as well as scalable and are by far the most efficient way to set up a robust network for one-off events such as the FIFA World Youth Championship. The network can be quickly dismantled leaving the venue fully intact at the end of the tournament."

Avaya is currently an Official FIFA Partner through to the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ and the FIFA Youth World Championship is part of Avaya's partnership with FIFA.
