Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider ofcommunications networks and services for businesses, has announcedthat its Gold BusinessPartner Newtel Essence has recentlycompleted the installation of a virtual Avaya IP communicationsnetwork to the Dutch trade union, De Unie.

The Avaya virtual IP solution supports all voice and datacommunications between De Unie's new headquarters "Unieplaza"located in Culemborg and its eight regional offices across theNetherlands. "With Unieplaza, our new Siebel CRM system and thevirtual Avaya IP communications network, De Unie is ready for thefuture," says Paul van der Loos, director of operations at DeUnie.

Newtel Essence has provided the design and implementation of thenew Avaya IP infrastructure. During the selection process NewtelEssence presented a communications concept that fully met the needsand requirements of De Unie in terms of management, cost controland functionality. An important requirement was a CTI connection tothe trade union's Siebel CRM solution. When a call is transferredinternally, the customer's information is also immediately sent tothe union employee taking the inquiry. "These capabilities enableDe Unie to significantly improve customer service and tocommunicate more efficiently with members," continues Paul van derLoos. "De Unie explicitly focuses on creating value throughcustomised service to its 100,000 members."

Despite the fact that De Unie operates from different locations,the new network can be centrally managed. By choosing Avaya'svirtual IP network system, De Unie will save half of the cost ofcabling. It can also accommodate De Unie's needs linked to anautomatic call distribution (ACD) functionality and flexibleworkspace. ACD functionality, including queue information, isespecially important for membership administration and the travelagency run by De Unie. Flexible workspace capabilities areessential for internal moves and activating virtual workspaces. Onesimple connection of a device to the network — to use allcommunication capabilities — will be the only action required toachieve this.

In addition to the installation of the new Avaya S8700 MediaServer, De Unie will also migrate its LAN environment, which willbe based on Avaya Ethernet switches. As a result, the seamlessconnection with other Avaya MultiVantage™ CommunicationsApplications in the future will be easy and cost effective.

The Avaya virtual IP communication network implemented at DeUnie's headquarters and regional offices by Newtel Essence is basedon Avaya Communication Manager IP telephony software. De Unie hasdeployed 328 Avaya 4620 IP phones.
