IBM and Avaya Announce Enhanced Alliance for End-to-EndVoice-Enabled Services

Avaya Inc. (NYSE: AV) and IBM today announced an agreement thatleverages their respective industry-leading services organizations,allowing both companies to jointly provide a full complement ofvoice services to meet the emerging communications needs of theirclients.

IBM Global Services and alliance partner Avaya Global Serviceswill combine resources, systems and offerings to deliverbest-in-class, complete voice services solutions on multi-vendorplatforms in the United States.

Specifically, Avaya Global Services will deliver maintenance andmanagement services for Internet Protocol (IP) telephonyapplications, traditional voice-enabled PBX systems and voicemessaging systems, establishing a new level of networking servicesfor clients.

"Leveraging IBM Global Service's experience and expertise indata and Avaya Global Service's experience and expertise in voice,this alliance provides customers a single source of unifiedsupport," said Christine Tenneson, program manager, NetworkLifecycle Services, for industry analyst firm IDC.

The services alliance will improve service delivery for bothcompanies as Avaya Global Services' will deliver ongoing voiceservices support to IBM services delivery centers. In addition, ajoint Program Office will support opportunity management, knowledgetransfer and resource utilization requirements. The end result willenhance Avaya's and IBM Global Services' ability to provide acomplete networking solution of voice services to customers.

"Given the increasing complexity of IP networking, our combinedstrengths will enable customers to gain better service levelguarantees and lower total services costs," said Todd Gordon,general manager, Networking Services — Americas, IBM GlobalServices. "This extension of our relationship with Avaya is aperfect solution for IBM and our customers."

Lou D'Ambrosio, group vice president, Avaya Global Services,added, "As more clients evolve to converged communicationsenvironments, Avaya's expertise in voice network services andapplications, coupled with IBM's network convergence andintegration experience, creates a unique offering for customers tomitigate risks and drive rapid return on their investment."

According to independent analyst IDC's August 2002 report,"Network Consulting and Integration Services: Year 2001 U.S andWorldwide Top Market Share Leaders," IBM was the global networkconsulting and integration services leader, with a market sharemore than two times greater than the nearest competitor. Accordingto the same report, IBM Global Services and Avaya Global Servicesare responsible for 14.6 percent of the $11.2 billion U.S. market.Additionally, IDC predicts the market for IP Telephony serviceswill grow 49 percent annually to $40.9 billion in 2007.
