Merrill Lynch Selects Avaya IP Telephony Solutions for Hopewell,New Jersey and Tokyo, Japan Sites

Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of communicationssolutions and services for businesses, today announced that MerrillLynch, one of the world's leading financial management companies,has selected Avaya Internet Protocol (IP) telephony solutions forits three-year-old corporate campus in Hopewell, New Jersey and itsnew regional headquarters building in Tokyo, Japan. Avaya GlobalServices will implement the solutions for Merrill Lynch.

Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider ofcommunications solutions and services for businesses, todayannounced that Merrill Lynch, one of the world's leading financialmanagement companies, has selected Avaya Internet Protocol (IP)telephony solutions for its three-year-old corporate campus inHopewell, New Jersey and its new regional headquarters building inTokyo, Japan. Avaya Global Services will implement the solutionsfor Merrill Lynch.

Based on Avaya Communication Manager IP telephony software andAvaya Media Servers1, the new solutions provide MerrillLynch with flexibility and resiliency that deliver a lower totalcost of ownership. The media servers will distribute CommunicationManager applications across each of the two networks and provideaccess to more than 600 distinct telephony features-from meet-meconferencing to malicious call tracing and emergency call overridecapabilities.

Merrill Lynch will use a mix of IP and digital handsets to serveits 5800 employees in New Jersey and 1800 employees inJapan-routing IP calls over its data network and digital calls overits new voice network. Regardless of the type of handset they use,all 7600 employees at the two sites will have access to the robustfeatures that IP telephony delivers. For example, mobile employeeswill be able to make and receive calls remotely from a laptop or PCusing an Avaya IP Softphone application. Or, they can use the AvayaExtension to Cellular feature that allows them to program theirincoming calls to follow them to a cell phone or other number wherethey can be reached.

IP telephony also enables Merrill Lynch to reduce administrativecosts by allowing phones to follow employees in office moves.Avaya's easy-to-use management and administrative tools and thefeatures of IP telephony allow moves, adds and changes in minutesand at a significantly lower cost.
