Avaya Korea Deploys IP Telephony Network for Korea Network Information Center (KRNIC) to Upgrade Customer Service for Internet Related Information

08-04-2004
  • Expects improved productivity with IP-based stable service and remote work support; Avaya Korea gears up for IP telephony market for public organizations

Avaya Korea Ltd. announced that it has completed the IP (Internet Protocol) telephony project for Korea Network Information Center (KRNIC), which manages Internet related information and resources including Internet resource allocation and registration services.

Avaya Korea Ltd., the Korean subsidiary of Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of business communications software, systems and services, today announced that it has completed the IP (Internet Protocol) telephony project for Korea Network Information Center (KRNIC), which manages Internet related information and resources including Internet resource allocation and registration services.

IP telephony is software-based technology that uses Voice over the Internet Protocol (VoIP) to transmit voice as data over a computer network. Businesses are adopting this rapidly emerging technology - which includes features such as call forwarding, conferencing, voice messaging and other applications - to enhance the capability of their communication network and reduce costs.

Avaya participated in KRNIC IP telephony project in collaboration with LG Electronics, Avaya's IP convergence BusinessPartner. For this project, Avaya provided its MultiVantage™ Communications Applications portfolio including Media Server, Media Gateway, IP phones, IP softphones, etc. Avaya plans to leverage this win to expand its IP telephony business to the public organization arena and introduce leading edge solutions to help Korean enterprises reduce cost, protect investment and grow revenues.

As a part of an IT infrastructure upgrade project following a recent company expansion, KRNIC decided to introduce an IP telephony network, expecting increased staff productivity and business efficiency, as IP telephony will enable KRNIC staff to communicate freely anytime, anywhere they can access the IP network. Furthermore, KRNIC staff are now able to work at home or other remote place through VPN based on IP telephony like they do in the office. Moreover, implementation of the IP-based infrastructure will reduce management and maintenance costs remarkably.

Dinesh Malkani, Managing Director of Avaya Korea, said, "By winning the IP telephony project of KRNIC, Korea's representative Internet resources management organization, Avaya has proved again its market leadership and excellence in the IP telephony field." He added, "Avaya will focus on expanding markets to public organizations in addition to large and small and medium-sized enterprises through aggressive business development strategies."

The Avaya IP telephony solutions that KRNIC introduced provide high scalability and reliability, while offering multiple functions such as conferencing, call center capability, multi-site support, integrated management of voice mail, remote access, etc.
