Avaya Leads Global IP Telephony Market For Fourth ConsecutiveQuarter

  • New Synergy Research Report Shows Avaya is #1 in Worldwide Enterprise IP Telephony Revenue and IP Line Shipments in Q3 of 2004; More Businesses Around Globe - Including Honda and Prosa - Choose Avaya For Evolution to IP

Avaya announced it has extended its global market leadership in enterprise Internet Protocol (IP) telephony for a fourth consecutive quarter.

Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of business communications software, systems and services, today announced it has extended its global market leadership in enterprise Internet Protocol (IP) telephony for a fourth consecutive quarter. The new market information, reported by industry analyst firm Synergy Research Group, places Avaya #1 in worldwide enterprise IP telephony revenue and IP telephony lines shipped in the third quarter of 2004, the most recent quarter measured.

Synergy's latest report shows Avaya with 25 percent market share in worldwide enterprise IP telephony revenue for the third quarter of 2004. It also shows Avaya with 25 percent of worldwide enterprise IP Telephony lines shipped, a figure that is 6 percentage points above the company's nearest competitor. Both revenue and lines shipped serve as key metrics for measuring leadership in the global IP telephony industry.

According to the Synergy report, Avaya's growth in worldwide enterprise IP telephony continued to accelerate and outpace the industry in the third quarter of 2004. Avaya grew its total IP telephony lines shipped by 112 percent in the third quarter of 2004 compared to the same quarter of last year. The overall IP telephony market grew by 76 percent for the same period.

New Avaya Customers Enhance Mobility, Customer Service Through IP
IP telephony is a software-based technology that uses Voice over the Internet Protocol (VoIP) to transmit voice as data over a computer network. More enterprises around the world are rapidly adopting this technology from Avaya, which helps organizations easily and cost-effectively integrate advanced communications applications across a range of business processes. Two new customers that have chosen Avaya IP telephony solutions include the UK pision of Honda, a leading manufacturer of automobiles and the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world, and Prosa, a Mexico-based company specializing in processing electronic transactions for point-of-sale terminals and ATMs.

Honda UK is installing new IP telephony solutions from Avaya to support greater employee mobility and improve customer service for its dealerships. The Avaya solution is part of a new communications blueprint that Honda has designed for future dealerships, and will be rolled out to more than 200 UK dealerships over time. Honda UK's car dealerships will use Avaya IP Office — designed to deliver IP solutions to small businesses — enabling dealership employees to listen and reply to e-mails from any location using natural, spoken language and 'text-to-speech' capabilities. Honda UK's sales executives will use Avaya's secure IP wireless handsets, enabling executives to handle confidential customer calls, access e-mail or voicemail or manage audio conferences while roaming throughout the office, showroom or automobile lot.

Another company that has evolved to IP telephony with Avaya is Prosa, a company that specializes in processing electronic transactions for point-of-sale terminals and ATMs. The company has implemented solutions based on Avaya's IP-based suite of MultiVantage Communications Applications to help Prosa offer non-stop credit and debit card transactions from anywhere in the country. Prosa needed to support a large number of simultaneous transactions — more than 2 million per day — from several points of sale. Avaya's IP solutions were able to meet these needs, while significantly reducing the risks of service interruptions. With more than one thousand end points, Avaya's solution for Prosa is one of the largest IP telephony installations in Mexico.

Other organizations around the world that have recently chosen Avaya IP telephony solutions include U.S.-based VyStar Credit Union, a financial institution serving more than 300,000 members worldwide, Alestra AT&T, a leading provider of national and international long distance services in Mexico, Ernst & Young UK, one of the largest professional services firms in the world, and the NBC Olympics in Greece.
