Avaya Leads World Market in Enterprise IP Telephony Port Shipmentsfor 2003

Avaya Inc. announced it achieved global market leadership for Enterprise Internet Protocol (IP) Telephony Ports shipped, with 22.4 percent of the market in 2003 as reported in a recent study by industry analyst firm Synergy Research Group.

According to the report, Avaya supplied 26.3 percent of the enterprise IP telephony ports shipped worldwide during the fourth quarter of 2003, beating the nearest competitor by more than eight percentage points. This strong performance in the quarter fueled Avaya's market-leading finish for the year in IP telephony port shipments.

The report also named Avaya the leader in Enterprise IP Telephony Revenue for the fourth quarter of 2003, completing the year in the number-two overall position with 22.2 percent year-end market share, representing a 12.8 percentage point increase over 2002. By comparison, the top competitor lost 13.9 percentage points in enterprise IP telephony revenue market share during the same 12-month period, according to the report.

"While IP telephony is still in the early stages of adoption - we estimate that approximately two to three percent of more than 400 million telephony ports in use by business today are IP-enabled - we believe Avaya is well-positioned to succeed in this growing market," said Donald Peterson, chairman and CEO of Avaya.
