Avaya Listed in the "Leader" Quadrant in Enterprise Telephony MagicQuadrant for Asia Pacific

Avaya announced that it has been listed in the leader quadrant in an Asia Pacific Enterprise Telephony Magic Quadrant, 2004, report published by research and advisory firm, Gartner, Inc.

Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of communications networks and services for businesses, today announced that it has been listed in the leader quadrant in an Asia Pacific Enterprise Telephony Magic Quadrant, 2004, report1 published by research and advisory firm, Gartner, Inc.

The report, authored by Gartner analyst Geoff Johnson, evaluated 12 major Asia Pacific economies from "the perspective of a multinational enterprise that wants to deploy telephony across the region".

Gartner positioned the vendors in one of four quadrants based on their vision and ability to execute on that vision. The vision criteria include corporate strategies, technical capabilities and innovation, effectiveness of market communications, and vendor support and services capabilities. The execution criteria measure market share/ mind share, financial strength, product specific capabilities, and effectiveness of distribution channels.

According to Gartner, "A major shift in enterprise telephony technology is occurring as voice circuit switched PBX/private automatic branch exchange (PABX) systems that use time pision multiplexing (TDM) technologies reach their generational end of life. New or replacement equipment for delivering dial tones and voice calls in nearly all Asia/Pacific enterprises will be based on packet-switched voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure with IP telephony."

Avaya's IP Telephony customers in Asia Pacific include Japan's Merrill Lynch offices and @NetHome Co Ltd, South Korea's Seoul Auto Gallery, Australia's Australian National University and Department of Veterans Affairs, and China's Wuliangye Brewery Group.

The recent publication of Gartner's 2004 Magic Quadrants for enterprise IP telephony vendors also positioned Avaya in the leaders quadrant, in the North American2 and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA)3 Magic Quadrants.
