Avaya Listed in the Leaders Quadrant in the Magic Quadrant Report for North American Corporate Telephony

  • Report focuses on enterprise migration to Internet Protocol (IP) telephony

Avaya announced it has been listed in the leaders quadrant in a Magic Quadrant for North American Corporate Telephony, 2004 report published by research and advisory firm, Gartner, Inc.

Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of business communications software, systems and services, today announced it has been listed in the leaders quadrant in a Magic Quadrant for North American Corporate Telephony, 2004 report published by research and advisory firm, Gartner, Inc.*

Co-authored by industry analysts Jay Lassman, Richard Costello and Jeffrey Snyder, the report positions vendors in one of four quadrants based on the companies' vision and ability to execute on that vision. The four quadrants are Leaders, Challengers, Visionaries and Niche Players.

Vendors are evaluated according to their completeness of vision and ability to execute. The Gartner definition of completeness of vision includes corporate strategy, marketing strategy and service strategy and technology. The ability to execute measurement focuses on products, distribution, market presence and financial strength.

According to Gartner, vendors listed in the leader's quadrant are performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market.

According to the report, "the migration from time pision multiplexing (TDM) to Internet Protocol (IP) and full-featured IP telephony environments is receiving more attention from a wide variety of companies." Moving beyond price and feature comparison, executives are now evaluating how IP telephony can add value to business processes. The report states, "This significant shift requires that IT and telecommunications organizations select solution integrators that can demonstrate their ability to understand an organization's goals, and that can deliver a complete solution that includes features, applications, long-term support and qualified professional services."

"IP telephony is moving to a new level, with applications that support a flexible mobile workforce, such as integration with wireless technology and multimedia messaging," said Michael Thurk, group vice president, Enterprise Communications Group, Avaya. IP telephony transmits voice as data packets on the network, which can streamline the development of applications that combine voice and data information in business processes, for example, the initiation of automated communications in response to urgent business priorities.

Padcom, Inc., a leading provider of enterprise remote access connectivity solutions, chose Avaya IP telephony to enable its mobile workforce to stay in touch with customers and alliance partners.
