12-06-2004
  • One of the largest banking institutions in the country implements cutting edge technology for increased mobility and flexibility

Avaya announced that the Banco do Brasil, one of the leading banks in Brazil, will implement a wireless IP Telephony solution from Avaya that will enable the bank to reduce costs while improving employee productivity.

Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of business communications software, systems and services, today announced that the Banco do Brasil, one of the leading banks in Brazil, will implement a wireless IP Telephony solution from Avaya that will enable the bank to reduce costs while improving employee productivity.

The new IP Telephony solution will provide increased mobility for employees in the banks' new offices in the capital of Brasilia. Users can access the bank's corporate network securely from anywhere in the building and work as if they were at their desks. With Avaya IP Softphone, employees can use their laptops to automatically have their desk phone extension, which also allows them to work remotely with the same features and functionalities as in the office.

IP Telephony is software-based technology that uses Voice over the Internet Protocol (VoIP) to transmit voice as data over a computer network. Businesses are adopting this rapidly emerging technology — which includes features such as call forwarding, conferencing, voice messaging and other applications — to enhance the capability of their communication network and reduce costs.

"Among the many advantages of the new Avaya solution are increased flexibility and investment protection since Banco do Brasil is able to use their existing equipment and add a robust IP system that enables features such as call forwarding, conferencing, voice messaging and other applications," explained Mauro Buccos, director of government sales for Avaya Brazil.

In addition, the solutions that Banco do Brasil will implement are fully compatible with the existing LANs (wireline or wireless), thereby giving the bank the freedom to develop its wireless infrastructure with outstanding voice quality.

The solutions that Banco do Brasil will install are among the latest available in IP telephony and include: Avaya 4610D01A IP Series Telephone, Avaya Softphone R5, and the Avaya ProLogix system. After implementation is completed, the solution will support the daily activities of approximately 260 employees.

Avaya solutions support communications with wireless IP telephones, using the Avaya Communications Manager combined with new or existing Wireless LAN infrastructure. By converging voice and data into one single network, Avaya IP solutions help companies optimize investments and drive business results.
