Grupo Proa Connects 68 Facilities Throughout Mexico with IPTelephony Solutions from Avaya

01-27-2004
  • Implementation of IP Telephony reduces costs up to 60 percent and improves employee productivity and customer service

Avaya announced that Grupo Proa has implemented an IP Telephony solution that has helped the company improve customer service while reducing telephony costs up to 60 percent.

Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of communications networks and services for businesses, today announced that Grupo Proa, a holding company for Laboratorios Clínicos del Chopo, Mexico's leading provider of medical services to hospitals, research and pharmaceutical companies, has implemented an IP Telephony solution that has helped the company improve customer service while reducing telephony costs up to 60 percent.

The newly installed converged communications solution from Avaya, links Grupo Proa's 68 facilities throughout Mexico. Users can now call any branch by simply dialing the extension number, thus avoiding high telephony costs. In addition, the new system from Avaya speeds communications processes, increases productivity at the laboratories and enables better customer service.

"With so many offices throughout the country, interconnectivity is of vital importance. We needed a communications solution that would allow us to effectively link all our facilities without compromising the company's budget with long-distance calls and high costs," explains Grupo Proa's CEO, José Pérez.

Grupo Proa also needed a modern and reliable infrastructure that can support the company's current communications needs, as well as future growth. Avaya, along with its Business Partner Red Uno, supplied an IP telephony solution to integrate the voice and data communications between Grupo Proa's branches.

"The benefits have been great and the savings impressive. Just to give an example, our branch in Guanajuato alone has saved 60 percent in traditional telephony expenses since it installed Avaya's network. Seeing those results, we are confident that we will get a quick return on our investment," said Joaquín A. García, systems manager for Grupo Proa.

Grupo Proa's new telephone infrastructure allows for each branch to connect its Local Area Network to a Wide Area Network, to transmit voice and data. The company also plans to integrate video with a new system that will be implemented soon.

Grupo Proa installed an Avaya IP Office system, an "all-in-one" voice, data and applications solution that can function as an IP- or circuit switched- PBX, complete with office communications applications such as e-mail, voice mail and messaging. IP Office also provides simplified administration, which allows the company to manage all information in one center and access information at any time.

According to Information Week magazine in Mexico, during 2002, Grupo Proa was 22nd among the 50 most technologically innovative companies in Mexico. After implementing a converged IP network from Avaya, the company moved to 20th position in less than a year.
