Inchcape Motors Australia Opt for Avaya IP Wireless Telephones

  • Sales and support staff receive latest mobile productivity tools

Avaya announced that leading automotive group Inchcape Motors Australia (IMA) had selected Avaya IP Wireless Telephones for its sales and support staff.

Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV) a leading global provider of communications networks and services for businesses, today announced that leading automotive group Inchcape Motors Australia (IMA) had selected Avaya IP Wireless Telephones for its sales and support staff.

The advanced, lightweight Avaya 3616 IP Wireless Telephones give staff the productivity benefits of their desk telephone while allowing them to move freely around the work location. Introduction of the new phones will allow IMA to achieve cost savings and efficiency gains by using the company's existing Avaya IP converged voice and data network. Once the Avaya 3616 IP Wireless Telephones are rolled out, Inchcape will no longer need to operate and support a separate wireless telephone network.

IMA, which operates dealerships for Subaru, VW, Jaguar and Volvo, is one of Australia's largest automotive businesses with 17 locations in NSW and Victoria. IMA also imports and distributes Subaru vehicles.

David Starr, IS Manager for IMA, said the Avaya IP Wireless Telephones would be an important new productivity tool for mobile staff.

"Inchcape sales and service staff need to be contactable whenever they are away from their desks," he explained. "However they also need access to powerful business communications features such as voicemail and messaging that are available at the desktop.

"The Avaya 3616 IP Wireless Telephone allows us to easily download firmware that adds new features and capabilities. Therefore we can continue to ensure our staff is amply equipped to remain at the forefront of customer service."

The Avaya IP Wireless Telephone solution is designed for enterprise networks and supports the 802.11 standard for Wi-Fi networks converging voice and data over a single network.

The compact Avaya 3616 IP Wireless Telephones are of similar size and shape to a mobile cellular phone. They work in conjunction with the Avaya Voice Priority Processor, whose main role is to ensure that voice packets have priority over data packets, thereby providing consistent, high quality voice service on the network.

Inchcape will be the first company in Australia to install the Avaya 3616 IP Wireless Telephone solution as part of a corporate network.

Carlton Taya, managing director, Avaya South Pacific, said Inchcape had shown over the past few years that it was prepared to adopt innovative technology to achieve business benefits.

"As Avaya's IP convergence solutions have evolved, Inchcape has demonstrated a clear understanding of how to leverage Avaya technology to provide higher levels of customer service," Taya said. "By integrating our new generation IP wireless telephones into the network, Inchcape continues to build on its reputation as a leader in business innovation."

Inchcape plans to roll out the Avaya IP Wireless Telephone solution in stages, beginning with its site in Mentone, Victoria, which is due to be implemented by the end of March. Other sites around Australia will follow.
