Industrias Estra Reduces Costs and Improves Productivity with IP Telephony Solutions from Avaya

  • One of the country's biggest plastic manufacturers saves 6,000,000 pesos a month on communications costs

Avaya announced that Industrias Estra S.A., one of the country's leading manufacturers of plastic products, implemented Avaya IP Telephony solutions that have reduced communications costs and increased employee mobility and productivity.

For over 50 years, Industrias Estra S.A. has manufactured plastic products for commercial and home use including: furniture, water containers, medical products, agriculture and horticulture materials, trash containers and various items such as plastic utensils, drinking glasses and toys.


Industrias Estra upgraded their communications network in order to connect the company's headquarters and a warehouse in Medellín, a factory in Soacha County, and the company's main warehouse in Bogotá. Using a new IP Telephony solution from Avaya, users can now call any of the company's offices, warehouses, factories and points of sale throughout the country by simply dialing an extension number, thus avoiding long distance telephony costs.


In the short time that the system as been installed, Industrias Estra S.A., has already seen a return on investment. The company has seen a reduction in communication costs of approximately 6,000,000 pesos a month, roughly the equivalent of what it cost to install the Avaya IP Telephony system.


The company has also seen a dramatic increase in the productivity of its sales force as a result of implementing IP Telephony. According to Industrias Estra S.A. Engineering Director, Roberto Rave, "Our 22 account executives constantly travel inside and out of the country, and communication is critical for their jobs. Before, when sales executives wanted to make long distance calls from the road, they had to call to the main office and wait for the operator to connect their calls. This was not only time-consuming, but also very expensive.


Now, using an Avaya IP Softphone, they simply connect through their laptops. They have their phone extension and access to the company's Intranet, and can work as if they were in their office, regardless of where they are in the world", added Rave.


Additional benefits of the Avaya IP Telephony solution include:

  • A reduction in operating costs, due to various sites being linked by an extension-trunk link.
  • Productivity improvements due to Unified Messaging, which integrates voice messaging, fax and electronic mail in one single tool.
  • Availability of sales executives at any time. The Extension-to-Cellular feature from Avaya forwards calls received on an office extension to an employee's cellular phone, allowing the sales force to communicate from wherever they are.


Industrias Estra implemented a complete IP Telephony solution from Avaya that includes: INTUITY™ AUDIX , Avaya Communication Manager, its flagship IP Telephony offer running on an Avaya S8100 Media Server and 144 ports; 30 softphone licenses and 16 analog trunks.


The solution, implemented by Walter Bridge, an Avaya BusinessPartner in Medellin, was done under an operating lease agreement, which allows an easier way of payment through monthly fixed quotas.
