Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of business communications software, systems and services, today announced that the Brazilian branch of McAfee (NYSE: MFE) — a leading provider of security and network availability technologies — has made the strategic decision to implement Avaya IP Office in its São Paulo office. The modular voice and data converged solution offers IP telephony and a package of integrated applications, such as unified communications and contact center that have enabled McAfee to increase productivity and improve customer service.

IP telephony is software-based technology that uses the voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) to transmit voice over a data network. Businesses of all sizes are adopting this rapidly emerging technology — which includes features such as call forwarding, conferencing, voice messaging and other applications — to enhance the capability of their communications network and reduce costs.

Avaya IP Office is an "all-in-one" IP telephony solution designed to deliver converged voice and data communications solutions to small and mid-sized businesses and branch offices of larger enterprises. Avaya IP Office offers a variety of business-enhancing features including unified messaging, voice mail, conferencing, contact center capabilities, support for remote workers and other features that are usually available only with larger, more complex systems that typically cost more. Avaya has installed 35,000 IP Office systems for small and medium businesses worldwide since its introduction in 2002.

"As a technology company it's important to have communications solutions that can help our business increase productivity and maintain our competitive edge. IP Office offers all the features and functionalities we need for our business results," explains Emilio Munaro, president, McAfee Brazil.

IP Office can be customized to fit a company's needs, and allows an organization to implement IP communications at their own pace, while protecting investments previously made. The solution supports up to 360 users, and features a firewall for network security, internet access, wireless connectivity, advanced message monitoring and three ways to access phone calls — functionalities which until now could only be afforded by large corporations.

"It's clear that merging data and voice traffic onto a single IP network saves money, but we've learned that businesses are considering IP telephony as an important tool to improve customer service and solve many business problems. Avaya IP Office brings McAfee the functionalities of sophisticated voice and data networks and has enabled the company to improve its business operations," said Marcio Mattos, managing director of Avaya Brazil. "In addition, IP Office management and maintenance helps reduce the risk of unauthorized access to the corporate network."

IP Office runs on Microsoft® Windows platform. In Brazil, it is sold directly by Avaya or by its network of Avaya certified BusinessPartners.
