SKC Communication Products, Inc. Achieves Gold Certification Status with Avaya

The Gold certification is an industry-recognized designation that indicates SKC has met a series of rigorous criteria to ensure superior technical competency and the ability to deliver best-in-class customer service and support as measured by an independent survey organization.

SKC Communication Products Inc. helps organizations across the Midwest use Avaya communications systems, design and implementation services to meet their business objectives. One of those organizations is Kansas State University, located in Manhattan, Kansas. SKC has helped Kansas State achieve the critical reliability the University needs for its campus-wide communications network, which has the capacity to serve 25,000 users, including educators, students, and security and support personnel.

To protect its existing investment in its highly reliable, Avaya asynchronous transfer mode (ATM)-based telephony network, yet achieve additional business continuity it needed, the University added Avaya S8700 Media Servers to its existing network, which Avaya Global Services designed and installed at SKC's direction. Now, the University's new Avaya telephony communications network provides the redundant processing capability the University needs to continue operations in the event of a disruption or natural disaster.

The new network consists of two main pair of Avaya Media S8700 servers, two backup pairs of Avaya S8700 Media Servers, two Avaya M770 Multifunction Switches and 16 port networks, which enable Kansas State to provide campus-wide service. Kansas State upgraded to Avaya's industry-leading Communication Manager 2.0 IP telephony software and is using a mix of Avaya digital phones, analog phones and Avaya wireless IP telephony phones to protect its investment in its current infrastructure while providing an evolutionary path to the future.

With the additional IP network integrated into its existing system, Kansas State can now access features such as wireless IP telephony and IP connected gateways. For example, its IT and telecom staff have increased mobility, since their calls are automatically forwarded, and they have access to their desktop applications.

The Gold certification status helps ensure SKC customers that they are working with a reseller dedicated to quality and service. For Avaya, the Gold certification indicates a reseller's commitment to technical expertise and service of Avaya's converged voice and data networks and applications.

The Avaya BusinessPartner certification program has three levels of distinction - Silver, Gold and Platinum. For SKC to achieve the Gold rating, the company had to meet specific customer service and performance criteria that included:

  • Customer satisfaction ratings of 85 percent or higher.
  • Certified employees who have completed courses and passed a rigorous exam to earn the designation "Avaya Certified Specialist." Avaya has one of the industry's leading programs to certify technical professions in converged voice and data networks and applications, including IP telephony.
