Avaya IP Telephony Solutions Drive Cost Savings and IncreasedProductivity for Mercedes-Benz Colomb

03-15-2005

When one of the world's leading car companies needed to reduce costs and improve productivity at its offices in Colombia, they turned to an Internet protocol telephony solution from Avaya Inc.

When one of the world's leading car companies needed to reduce costs and improve productivity at its offices in Colombia, they turned to an Internet protocol telephony solution from Avaya Inc. (NYSE: AV), a leading global provider of business communications software, systems and services. Mercedes-Benz Colombia not only distributes one of the most-recognized luxury car brands in the world, it also maintains a fleet of buses for the Transmilienio network of Bogot á, the largest mass transport system in the city.

In order to improve customer satisfaction and cost efficiencies throughout the organization, the company installed an IP Telephony solution from Avaya. The IP network connects the company's main office in Bogot á with a showroom in the north of the city, and a bus maintenance facility. Mercedes-Benz's employees are now able to communicate among the various locations by simply dialing a four digit extension number. The Avaya solution also includes unified communication, which incorporates e-mail, voice mail and fax. Users can use speech commands to access information from any phone, check e-mail and voice mail, set up conference calls, and manage directories and databases for contacts.

IP telephony is software-based technology that uses Voice over the Internet Protocol (VoIP) to transmit voice as data over a computer network. Businesses are adopting this rapidly emerging technology - which includes features such as call forwarding, conferencing, voice messaging and other applications - to enhance the capability of their communication network and reduce costs.

"We have reduced our monthly long distance costs by 30 percent, but more importantly, we have seen an increase in productivity at all our offices," said Ramiro Avellaneda, manager of Information Technology for Mercedes-Benz Colombia. "All our employees, from the executives at the main office, to the bus maintenance staff are able to collaborate more quickly and conveniently."

Employees of Mercedes-Benz Colombia also benefit from enhanced mobility since they are able to access the company's communications applications from any location. By virtually eliminating the distance between locations, the IP Telephony solution helps Mercedes-Benz provide consistent high quality service, resulting in more satisfied customers. In addition, Avaya's call monitoring and management helps the company to reduce overall system management costs.

"The Avaya IP Telephony solution not only helped Mercedes Benz Colombia reduce costs, but by embedding technology into the fabric of their enterprise, Mercedes-Benz was able to transform their business by making people more productive, processes more intelligent and customers more satisfied," said Ricardo Arevalo, managing director of Avaya in Colombia.
