Avaya, Inc. announced that it continues to lead the IP Telephonymarket in Mexico with a 45 percent market share for the calendaryear 2004.Avaya, Inc. (NYSE: AV) a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services, today announced that it continues to lead the IP Telephony market in Mexico with a 45 percent market share for the calendar year 2004. According to the recently released IDC report entitled "Mexico Enterprise Network Systems Tracker Q4 2004," the total value of the IP Telephony market in Mexico in 2004 was over US$65 million. According to the IDC report, Avaya leads the IP Telephony market in both revenues and IP ports shipped. The company's market share in Mexico grew from 36 percent in 2003 to 45 percent in 2004.

Companies such as MetLife Mexico, Prosa and Alestra AT&T have implemented IP Telephony solutions from Avaya in order to derive greater value from their communications infrastructure by making people more productive, and processes more intelligent.

IP Telephony is software-based technology that uses the voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) to transmit voice over a data network. Businesses of all sizes are adopting this rapidly emerging technology which includes features such as call forwarding, conferencing, voice messaging and other applications to enhance the capability of their communications network and reduce costs.

"Our strategy of offering businesses the benefit of choice in pursuing an all-IP network or a mixed solution combining IP and traditional telephony is paying off. This empowers companies to make more flexible decisions when migrating to IP while continuing to gain value from current investments," explained José Gómez Obregon, managing director of Avaya in Mexico.

Avaya is using its global leadership in IP Telephony to help companies integrate intelligent communications into core business processes. Intelligent Communications seamlessly connects communications applications and business applications, giving workers, customers and processes the ability to be linked to the right person, at the right time, by the right medium - voice, text and video - over any network.

"The results for 2004 support a growing trend in Mexico toward the adoption of enterprise IP telephony that we saw throughout the year," said Ricardo Villate, research analyst for IDC Latin America. "Avaya's performance shows they were able to take advantage of this burgeoning market."
