Avaya Scores a Goal with First Ever Evolution Forum

Avaya announced the results of its first ever Avaya Evolution Forum, which took place on August 2 at the Hotel Transamerica in São Paulo.

Avaya Inc. (NYSE: AV), a leading global provider of business communications software, systems and services, today announced the results of its first ever Avaya Evolution Forum, which took place on August 2 at the Hotel Transamerica in São Paulo. The event attracted over 2,700 attendees including customers, prospects, BusinessPartners, industry analysts and opinion leaders. The forum featured conference sessions, educational seminars as well as an exhibition area that highlighted Avaya's IP Telephony, Mobility, and Contact Center solutions and Services.

The event opened with a presentation by Marcio Mattos, president of Avaya Brasil, who spoke of the company's operations in Brazil and its leadership in the Contact Center and IP Telephony markets. Jorge Blanco, global vice-president of Marketing, Strategy and Portfolio Management for Avaya, then presented the company's new strategy based on the concept of Intelligent Communications.

Intelligent Communications seamlessly connects communications applications and business applications, giving workers, customers and processes the ability to be linked to the right person, at the right time, by the right medium - voice, text and video - over any network. "Avaya is building on its heritage as an innovator in voice, IP telephony and contact centers, and its delivery of reliable, secure solutions that work on any network, to lead the transition to this new era of intelligent applications," explained Blanco.

Pelé was the event's special guest, and spoke about the "Evolution of Communications in the FIFA World Cup " in a talk with Armando Nogueira, The former player and the journalist recounted memorable and funny moments in Pelé's career during the FIFA World Cup, including 1958, when Brazil was the world champion for the first time.

The choice of soccer as the main theme of the event is due to Avaya's sponsorship of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany . Avaya, which supplied the converged communications network for the FIFA World Cup 2002 Korea/Japan, will build and manage the largest converged communications network ever implemented in a sporting event for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany.

Avaya Evolution Forum included also exhibits of products and solutions of Avaya's partners such as Anixter, CIT, Extreme Networks, Furukawa, GVT, IEX, Network1, Network General, Nice, Olitel, Plantronics, Plusoft, Polycom, Sumus, Telesul Sistemas, Telmart, TM Solutions, Westcon, Witness, Wittel and others.

For Marco Fontenelle, commercial director of Network General in Brazil, a recent partner of Avaya DeveloperConnection Program, (DevConnect) said the organization of events that allow the demonstration and personalized explanation of the solutions that complement Avaya's technology are very important for suppliers as well as for customers.

"The event brought in a highly qualified audience and we made excellent contacts," stated Alejandro Barredo, director of Operations and Support for Sumus, another partner that was present in the event. Barredo's opinion is shared by Sumus's Channel manager, Sandro Duarte, "we are already sending offers to potential buyers that we met during the event and some business deals are about to be closed."

"The forum exceeded our expectations in the quantity and quality of attendees. The content was well received and we managed to bring together our partners and customers to generate new business, in addition to making Avaya's technology - part of a new Era of Intelligent Communications - closer to reality for our customers in Brazil," said Marcio Mattos, president of Avaya Brasil. "With the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany, we will demonstrate that if Avaya can offer complete communications solutions for a sporting event with the dimensions of the World Cup, we can do much more for the Brazilian corporate market," he added.
