Avaya Wins the Best in VoiceCon Award for Managed IP Services

Avaya has won the Best In VoiceCon Award for Avaya Remote Managed Services for IP Telephony, one of the first commercially available services for remotely monitoring and managing Internet Protocol (IP) telephony networks.

Avaya Inc. (NYSE: AV), a leading global provider of businesscommunications software, systems and services, has won the Best InVoiceCon® Award for Avaya Remote Managed Services for IPTelephony, one of the first commercially available services forremotely monitoring and managing Internet Protocol (IP) telephonynetworks. The single award winner is selected by a vote ofattendees at VoiceCon® 2005, one of the leading conferenceand exhibition events in the enterprise communicationsindustry.

Avaya is a global leader in IP telephony, with five million IPlines shipped. In the most recent quarter, IP line shipments roseby more than 50 percent over the previous year.

Developed by Avaya Global Services, the new solution wasannounced yesterday and demonstrated publicly for the first time atVoiceCon 2005. The software-based service proactively monitors therelationship between voice and data IP applications, as well astheir shared physical network infrastructure, in a holistic way. With this service, businesses can quickly detect, and in many casesautomatically resolve, performance issues at their source, beforethey can affect network operation. Data networks are by naturedynamic environments, and there are many components that must worktogether for the network to perform at its best. Maintaining theinterrelationships of the components is key to ensuring topperformance of IP telephony networks.

The Avaya solution monitors converged IP networks by constantlymeasuring capacity, performance and other key metrics of a healthynetwork. It uses techniques that are unique in the industry toanalyze the root cause of problems, such as high latency, and usesspecially developed Avaya software to fix them and learn how toidentify them more quickly if they happen again. Over an IPtelephony connection, high latency, which is the time it takes fora packet of data to travel from its origin to its destination, candisrupt voice conversations in VoIP applications. Jitter, which isshaky pulses of data that could dramatically degrade the sound of avoice conversation, is another common problem that the Avayasolution can find and eliminate.

"It is a tremendous honor to win this award at VoiceCon, one ofthe industry's most influential events, and winning by attendeevote is especially gratifying," said Francis M. Scricco, group vicepresident, Avaya Global Services. "Managing IP networks effectivelyis a top priority for our customers.
