Avaya and Employees Support National and Local Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts

Avaya outlined initiatives the company and employees are undertaking to support customers in the area and victims affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services, today outlined initiatives the company and employees are undertaking to support customers in the area and victims affected by Hurricane Katrina. Avaya is working in a collaborative effort with partners, government officials and other high technology companies to proactively provide solutions for customers and relief agencies. These include:

  • A large team of Avaya systems engineers, architects and senior leaders converged on the American Red Cross headquarters in Washington DC Friday, September 2 to work on a collaborative effort to rapid deploy technology to shelters across the stricken Gulf area.
  • Avaya is working with Entergy, the nation's second largest power generator with 2.7 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, to help them provide public service information and handle customer inquiries regarding ETR (Expected Time of Repair).
  • In Houston, a team of Avaya technicians, sales engineers and support personnel set up a communications hub in the Reliant Center, which is connected with the Astrodome, to provide phone banks for hurricane victims and conferencing capabilities for support staff. The hub, which was implemented in less than 36 hours from initial idea, will also support other centers in the Austin Convention Center, the Dallas Fort Worth Convention Center, the Reunion Arena in Dallas, the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Ft. Worth, the Convention Center in Houston and Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio.
  • Avaya has made its solutions and services available to Louisiana State University to help support the influx of people on the university campus which also serves as a beachhead for local emergency management.
  • Avaya is expanding its employee matching gifts program to provided additional financial support for employees making donations supporting Hurricane Katrina Relief efforts. Avaya will also support employees who are called to National Guard duty.
