Edmonton Airports Soar with Avaya IP Telephony Solution

Avaya announced that the Edmonton Airport Authority has consolidated communications and linked two critical, remote locations with the Edmonton International Airport communications infrastructure, using an Avaya Internet-Protocol (IP)-enabled solution.

(NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of business communications software, systems and services, today announced that the Edmonton Airport Authority has consolidated communications and linked two critical, remote locations with the Edmonton International Airport communications infrastructure, using an Avaya Internet-Protocol (IP)-enabled solution. As a result, Edmonton Airport Authority has reduced operational costs and improved emergency preparedness with a more flexible network that will support its needs well into the future.

Edmonton Airport Authority is a not-for-profit organization that is responsible for the management of the region's airport facilities on behalf of the local community.

Communications play a vital role in response-readiness for the Edmonton International Airport, so efficiency and business continuity must be maintained regardless of weather, network or emergency situations. The new Avaya solution links the Air Operations Maintenance Centre (AOMC), and the Edmonton Airport Fire Station, to the airport's communications infrastructure. The solution also connects the airport with the communications systems of the local EMS services, improving its overall level of emergency communications responsiveness.

"The Avaya solution has enabled us to converge over 600 voice and data lines for greater efficiency and agility, plus save about $200,000 per year on service fees for phone line moves, adds and changes, alone."

Edmonton Airport Authority deployed Avaya MultiVantage® Communications Applications suite - including the flagship Avaya Communication Manager IP telephony software and messaging applications - for a cost-effective solution that better supports both customers and staff at the world class air transportation facility. With numerous departments across Airport locations, the new solution will more efficiently direct customer requests to the right person in the right department, improving customer satisfaction while freeing staff from handling misdirected calls.
