Leipzig Central Stadium Moves its Communications Up a League withAvaya Solutions to Welcome Global FIFA Football Events

Avaya Inc. announced that it has won a contract to provide LeipzigCentral Stadium with a new converged voice and data communicationsnetwork.Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services, today announced that it has won a contract to provide Leipzig Central Stadium with a new converged voice and data communications network. The stadium is one of the venues for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2005 and the 2006 FIFA World Cup™, both being hosted by Germany. Leipzig joins other host stadiums, Frankfurt and Cologne, in their decision to deploy Avaya converged solutions in preparation for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™.

Avaya's converged communication infrastructure will enable Leipzig Central Stadium to easily, effectively and securely handle the complex communications demands of the FIFA Confederations Cup 2005, kicking off next month, as well as the world's largest sporting event, the 2006 FIFA World Cup™, all over a single network. Avaya, in partnership with Deutsche Telekom, is also providing IP telephony to FIFA as part of its communications infrastructure for both events.

Additionally, the new Avaya network will seamlessly interoperate with all other host stadiums, regardless of their network infrastructure, as well as the FIFA Local Organising Committee locations, for both FIFA events. The installation also includes an Avaya wireless LAN enabling flexible, easy communication from anywhere in the stadium and around the pitch. As a result of Avaya's design, Leipzig Central Stadium will have optimised communications infrastructure reliability through the installation of redundant processors and power to provide real-time back-up should the network be interrupted in any way.

For example, journalists reporting on FIFA events will be provided with a highly reliable and resilient network so that they may deliver continuous news feeds back to their studios without experiencing transmission problems.

It is impossible to organise events of such scale without reliable and secure communications and is especially vital when so many people are involved and the world is watching. By implementing Avaya solutions, Leipzig Central Stadium is contributing to the success of the World Cup."
