New Frankfurt Waldstadion to Install Avaya Converged Solution Ready for 2006 FIFA World Cup

Avaya, an Official Partner of the 2006 FIFA World Cup

Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of communications networks and services for businesses, and an Official Partner of the 2006 FIFA World Cup , today announced that Avaya voice and data converged infrastructure and applications will be installed at the new stadium being built in Frankfurt, Germany, for the 2006 FIFA World Cup .

The deal completed in partnership with Deutsche Telekom T-Com, is part of a 126 million investment in the new 48,000-seat stadium being built on the site of the previous 1920s stadium. The Avaya solution is being provided to the customer by Deutsche Telekom subsidiary and Avaya Silver BusinessPartner, Deutsche Telekom Network, Projects & Services GmbH. The stadium is one of the 12 venues for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

The investment in the Avaya converged communications solution ensures the new stadium will deliver the voice and data requirements for hosting the world's largest sporting event, the 2006 FIFA World Cup . Following installation and testing in May this year, the system's capabilities will be tested in a real environment when Frankfurt Waldstadion hosts the opening, final and other matches for the FIFA Confederations Cup this June.

As a result of Avaya's design, Frankfurt Waldstadion will have optimised communications infrastructure reliability through the installation of redundant processors and power to provide real-time back-up should the network be interrupted in any way.

For example, broadcasters reporting on the 2006 FIFA World Cup , will be provided with a highly reliable and resilient network so that they may deliver continuous news feeds back to their studios without experiencing transmission problems. This, combined with the connectivity in the network being used by all 2006 FIFA World Cup venues, will ensure that the Frankfurt matches are managed effectively. This means that all inpiduals working to deliver the exciting events, will be assured of uninterrupted and secure communications.

  • This contract was won as part of a competitive tender together with Deutsche Telekom and is not linked to Avaya's sponsorship of the FIFA World Cup .
  • The equipment installed at the stadium includes Avaya Communication Manager software powering two Avaya S8700 servers and an Avaya G650 gateway, enabling voice and data communications to run on the same network.
  • During the 2002 FIFA World Cup , Avaya's network provided voice and data services for groups such as FIFA staff, Organizing Committee employees, volunteers, as well as media and broadcasters. Avaya technology connected twenty stadia and eight other venues across two countries, including 120,000 connections and 40,000 endpoints across all venues.
