02-09-2006
  • New appointment scheduling solution marries the power of voice with Web services for bottom-line benefits; Avaya-compatible applications improve service and productivity, reduce costs and connect workers on the move

Medical care providers are about to find out how Intelligent Communications provided by Avaya can help improve care quality and cut costs while making processes and interactions more efficient.

BASKING RIDGE, N.J., US – Medical care providers are about to find out how Intelligent Communications provided by Avaya can help improve care quality and cut costs while making processes and interactions more efficient.  At the upcoming HIMSS® 06 healthcare conference, the company and members of its developer community will focus on communications solutions that address issues facing healthcare today, such as overburdened resources, accuracy and speed which face the healthcare industry today.  Avaya Inc. (NYSE: AV) is a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services.  HIMSS® 06 takes place February 12-16 in San Diego, California.

“New intelligent communications applications from Avaya and members of its development community are helping healthcare companies get more out of their investment in their IT and communications infrastructure,” said Eric Rossman, vice president, developer relations and technical alliances, Avaya.  “Together we’re focused on giving providers the kinds of tools they need to operate more efficiently, drive down costs, and improve the service they deliver to patients.”

Avaya Demonstrates Voice-Activated, Web-Based Appointment Scheduling Solution
Avaya will demonstrate a voice-activated, Web-based appointment scheduling solution that allows patients to use either self-service voice prompts or the Internet to select an appointment time.  Patients can even request that they be notified in the event a cancellation opens up an earlier date.  When cancellations do occur, the Avaya Voice Portal automatically dials the first patient in the appropriate appointment queue to offer the new time, securing a verbal confirmation and updating the healthcare provider’s calendar.  As a result, Avaya enables medical offices to operate more efficiently while enhancing patient services.  The solution integrates Avaya Communication Manager IP telephony software, Avaya Voice Portal – a software platform powering innovative, scalable self-service applications compatible with next-generation Web services, and third-party developer applications.

Demos Feature Leading Avaya-Compatible Healthcare Applications
Avaya’s booth at HIMSS (#646) also will spotlight communications solutions for the healthcare market by key members of the company’s DeveloperConnection program – an initiative to create innovative third-party products that interoperate with standards-based Avaya technology and extend the value of an organization’s investment in its network.  Avaya rigorously tests member solutions for interoperability so best-in-breed capabilities operate seamlessly when added to an existing Avaya infrastructure.

Patient inquiry and notification systems from Interactive Northwest Inc. that integrate with Avaya Interactive Response to free staff time by automatically collecting information and dialing patients to share reminders of appointments, medications and immunizations, routine test results or pre- and post-op instructions.
