  • Avaya speakers, customer and product demos highlight the evolution to IP-based speech solutions that drive new efficiencies and greater productivity

Avaya announced that it will be at the SpeechTEK West 2006 exposition and conference to discuss how businesses can use IP-enabled speech technologies in a service oriented architecture (SOA) to deliver more intelligent communications across an organization.

BASKING RIDGE, N.J., US – Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services, today announced that it will be at the SpeechTEK West 2006 exposition and conference to discuss how businesses can use IP-enabled speech technologies in a service oriented architecture (SOA) to deliver more intelligent communications across an organization. Scheduled for January 30—February 1 in San Francisco, Calif., SpeechTek West is a leading global event on emerging speech technologies.

An SOA model provides businesses with a flexible framework that supports communications between applications and Web services to serve many critical functions. This drives, for example, the processes behind online purchases made by customers or inventory management decisions made by executives. Avaya open standards-based speech solutions tap the full potential of an SOA by enabling businesses to design and deploy speech-enable applications in the fastest, most cost-efficient manner.

“Today’s organizations are looking for ways to use speech to improve business operations and customer service to gain an edge on the competition,” said Eileen Rudden, vice president and general manager, Communications Applications pision, Avaya.  “IP-based speech technologies within a service-oriented architecture can help improve the agility of business processes – making it easier for employees and customers to use natural, spoken language to access the critical business information and services they need, in real-time.”

As part of its event activities at SpeechTek West 2006, Avaya will have experts on hand to discuss how businesses can use speech to improve their operations. The company will also hold a free workshop from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Wednesday, Feb. 1 on speech-enabling business information and applications.  Among the topics to be covered:  the latest software platforms, tools and services; how to evolve from a traditional interactive voice response solution to an IP-based voice portal; and the impact of Web services on new speech applications.

Avaya customer Barbara Layton, telecommunications manager for Marin County, Calif., will participate in a keynote panel beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, January 30. Layton will discuss how Avaya speech-enabled solutions help county employees stay connected to the community and each other while mobile.  Marin County employees and elected officials access critical business tools by calling a single number and speaking simple voice commands.  They can listen to and compose emails, schedule appointments, and reach contacts quickly from any phone.

“Our elected officials and county employees are always on the go – whether they are meeting constituents, inspecting buildings, repairing traffic lights or staffing a local health clinic,” Layton said.  “Avaya speech solutions help us provide the tools they need to stay in touch, while also meeting our responsibility to make efficient use of tax dollars.   With speech access, employees can work while traveling without the inconvenience of taking along a laptop.  This is a real plus that drives both efficiency and productivity.”
