Extreme Networks Summit X450 Switch Platform Successfully Completes Compliance Testing With Avaya's Market-Leading IP Telephony Solutions

  • Scalable, available and secure Power over Ethernet switching solution evaluated for key requirements that enable enterprise IP telephony applications

Extreme Networks has successfully completed compliance testing of Extreme Networks® Summit® X450 switches with Avaya IP telephony solutions.

SANTA CLARA, Calif.– Extreme Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:EXTR) and Avaya (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services, have successfully completed compliance testing of Extreme Networks® Summit® X450 switches with Avaya IP telephony solutions. As part of the testing, the companies evaluated performance, use of PoE and connectivity with Avaya IP phones on a converged network.

The family of Summit X450 switches are the first fixed edge solutions that feature PoE, LLDP/LLDP-MED extensions and a modular network operating system, ExtremeXOS™, to help increase availability and security for converged applications. The Summit X450e and X450a switches come in 24 and 48 port versions with optional dual-port 10 Gigabit uplinks and advanced IPV6 routing, voice-class availability and security featuring hardware-based sFlow sampling and policy-based security functions. The switches were tested with the Avaya Communication Manager, Avaya IP Office, Avaya one-X G10 Gateway and Avaya IP Telephones.

As a result of Avaya’s compliance process, the Summit X450 was successful in all tested scenarios, interoperating with Avaya Communications Manager IP telephony software, Avaya Media Gateways and Avaya IP phones.  As a result, the Summit X450 switches were validated as compliant through the Avaya DeveloperConnection program—an initiative to develop, market and sell innovative third-party products that interoperate with Avaya technology and extend the value of a company’s investment in its network. Extreme Networks is a Strategic member of the program.

Highlights of the tests included the verification of PoE interoperability between the Summit X450e-24p switch, Avaya IP Telephones and the Avaya one-X G10 PSTN Gateway.  Power tests included verification of the following after the powered device was connected to the switch:

  • Successful boot operation.
  • Successful registration with Avaya Communication Manager or Avaya IP Office IP communications  solutions.
  • Connecting a mix of Avaya IP Telephones to the switch, power cycling the switch and verifying successful boot operation and registration of the devices to the Avaya Communication Manager software.

"Our Summit X450 fixed switches not only are the first fixed Ethernet devices to feature a secure and modular operating system, they are now validated to provide critical voice and data convergence with Avaya’s world-class IP telephony solutions," said Scott Lucas, senior director of solutions marketing for Extreme Networks.  "Extreme Networks outfits enterprises of all sizes with switches that feature consistent performance, security and availability, thus giving customers valuable benefits that are tested and proven to work with Avaya’s communication solutions."

"Avaya is dedicated to demonstrating interoperability with industry-leading solutions such as the Summit X450, a product that helps businesses take advantage of the innovations of IP convergence," said Eric Rossman, Vice President, Ecosystems and Alliances, Avaya. "The recent and successful compliance-testing of Extreme Networks Summit X450 switch further signifies our commitment to supporting and testing best-in-class, converged multivendor networks."

As a member of the Avaya DeveloperConnection program, Extreme Networks is eligible to submit products for compatibility testing by the Avaya Solution Interoperability and Test Lab in Lincroft, N.J. There a team of Avaya engineers develops a comprehensive test plan for each application to verify whether it is Avaya compliant. Doing so helps ensure businesses can confidently add best-in-class capabilities to their network without having to replace their existing infrastructure—speeding deployment of new applications and reducing both network complexity and implementation costs.
