Avaya Named "2007 Communications Company of the Year" By South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

  • Miami-based Florida Health Solution uses Avaya solution to improve client service

Avaya was named “2007 Communications Company of the Year” by the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for the second consecutive year.

MIAMI, Fla. – For the second consecutive year, Avaya, a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services was named “2007 Communications Company of the Year” by the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

The annual award is presented by the Chamber to companies and organizations that significantly contribute to the continued growth and development of the business community and tourism industry of Florida’s Miami-Dade County. Nationwide, there are approximately two million Hispanic-owned businesses, generating almost US$300 billion in annual gross receipts.  By 2010, there will be 3.2 million such firms, generating US$465 billion. 


"In particular, Miami-Dade County area is one of the country's fastest-growing areas for Hispanic-owned companies," said Lilliam Lopez, president and CEO, South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. "Avaya is enabling businesses here to learn how they can use communications as strategic tools to help them provide superior customer service and improve their business processes." Avaya is a Trustee of the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and conducts free seminars on technology for Chamber members on how communications can be used to support their business objectives.


One such business, The Florida Health Solution, a prepaid health clinic company licensed in the state of Florida with about 80 employees, is using an Avaya solution to improve client service and better control operating costs.


"We arrange medical services for clients through a network of contracted physicians and other health care professionals, so client service, excellent communications and efficiency are top requirements," said Marcos Socorro Jr., vice president, Florida Health Solution ( Recently, the company chose Avaya IP Office, a cost-effective, easy to use, converged voice and data communications system designed for small and medium businesses, for its communications network. The company's IP Office was configured by Sytec-USA, a certified member of the Avaya BusinessPartner program.  


With the contact center software built into IP Office, Florida Health Solution can generate reports to control the quality of service, waiting time and abandonment rate, and can classify the number of calls. The Phone Manager Pro application enables employees to manage their phone calls via their PCs, even while out of the office or traveling, which helps boost productivity. 


"We particularly like the ability to track and view live calls with an easy-to-use PC program on our computers, which helps us provide personalized service because we can see who's calling and identify their general area of inquiry," Socorro says. "As a result, we're better prepared to serve our clients. And we manage the entire system ourselves from a central point, saving time and money for us and, ultimately, for our clients."
