InfoTech Identifies Avaya as Unified Messaging Market Leader in North America

09-12-2007
  • Avaya leads in both revenues and shipments of unified messaging mailboxes and in total messaging revenues for full year 2006

Avaya announced that the company has been recognized as the North American market leader for unified messaging in InfoTech's InfoTrack for Converged Applications - Messaging Report, 2006.

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. – Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a global leader in business communications applications, software and services, today announced that the company has been recognized as the North American market leader for unified messaging in InfoTech's InfoTrack for Converged Applications - Messaging Report, 2006. The report also identifies Avaya as the leader in total messaging revenues.

The report shows Avaya leading in both revenues and shipments of unified messaging applications with 37.1 percent and 28.7 percent market share respectively in each measurement. Avaya's lead in revenues puts the company 13 points ahead of the nearest competitor, and five points ahead in terms of shipments. In addition, Avaya leads North America with 27.1 percent market share in total messaging revenues – including standalone voice and unified messaging.

The report also forecasts growth in unified messaging solutions at a 36.8 percent combined annual growth rate (CAGR) in revenues through 2011, while sales of standalone voice messaging are expected to decline.

"Today, unified messaging accounts for more than a fifth of the total sales revenue of both standalone and unified messaging mailboxes," said Ken Dolsky, director, InfoTech. "We see that number increasing steadily as companies recognize the business value of unified messaging and as vendors offer increasingly attractive bundling and pricing arrangements."

Unified messaging provides a single point to access all voice, fax and email messages. Users can see, hear and manage any voice, fax or email message on a variety of devices - including a PC, any type of phone or supporting mobile device using an appropriate interface such as an email client, a web portal, software on a mobile device, touch tone commands, or speech recognition.

"Migrating to a unified messaging solution is one of the easier, more cost-effective steps a company can take on the road to unified communications," said Stuart Wells, senior vice president and president, Avaya Global Communications Solutions. "For example, it's a simple step to integrate Avaya's mobility solutions and eliminate business use of the mobile device mailbox. Avaya's leadership in unified messaging and IP Telephony provides companies with a firm, flexible foundation on which to build their unified communications strategy and ultimately, evolve to Intelligent Communications."

Avaya Modular Messaging is a powerful IP- and standards-based voice and fax messaging platform designed for single- or multi-site global enterprises. Companies can add new IP-based messaging capabilities while preserving current messaging infrastructure and capital investments. The solution allows customers to choose how they want to consolidate and store messages, using either an Avaya message store for voice, or Microsoft Exchange or IBM Lotus Domino servers as a unified message store.

Florida Gulf Coast University migrated to Avaya Modular Messaging from its former Octel voice mail system to provide 900 users with one-stop access and management of all voice, fax and Microsoft email messages. The solution is integrated with Microsoft Exchange, which allows the university to choose Avaya or Microsoft as the repository for message storage and retrieval.
