Avaya announced Raj Sonty has been appointed to the position of vice president and general manager of Avaya's Small Business pision.

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. - Avaya Inc., a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services today announced that Raj Sonty has been appointed to the position of vice president, solutions, of Avaya's Small and Medium Business pision.

In his new global role, Sonty will focus on developing a strategy to maintain Avaya's success in the small business market and seek growth opportunities to expand Avaya's leadership. A new independent report from global analyst firm Canalys shows that Avaya is the number one provider of communications solutions for small businesses – companies with 100 or fewer employees – in North America and Europe combined.

Sonty most recently served as vice president of business operations for the Xerox Corporation's Office Group, where he was responsible for the product portfolio, product and solutions management and channel expansion in the small and medium business segments. Sonty also held several general management positions at Xerox, where he managed multiple business units and also had roles in business development, strategy and product development.

"Small businesses with fewer than 100 employees are customers with unique needs," said Stuart Wells, senior vice president and president, Global Communications Solutions, Avaya. "Small businesses want dedicated solutions that meet their needs at the right price point. Avaya's history in leadership in small business coupled with access to our world class enterprise software means we can serve this segment aggressively." Sonty will work closely with Trevor Gruenewald, Avaya's vice president of the company's North America sales channel for small and mid-sized Avaya BusinessPartners.

Sonty has an M.B.A. in Finance and Operations Management from the University of Rochester, an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois, and a B.S.E.E. in Electrical and Communications engineering from India. He will be based in Basking Ridge, N.J.
