Beijing Ditan Hospital to Enhance Mobility and Services with Avaya Unified Communications Solutions

06-17-2008

Beijing Ditan Hospital selected Avaya's Unified Communications solutions to enhance efficiency of its highly mobile staff and provide timely and quality services to patients.

BEIJING, China – Beijing Ditan Hospital, one of China's top hospitals specializing in infectious diseases and a leading institution on AIDS treatment and prevention, will deploy Avaya's Unified Communications solutions in order to enhance efficiency of its highly mobile staff, and provide timely and quality services to patients.

Doctors and nurses that roam around in the buildings, or on road, can easily access to rich features from their "personal assistant," including listening to voice mails, checking emails and faxes, schedule meetings, or simply making calls from the corporate directory. As a result, they will not only become more efficient, but will always be available when there are urgent situations.

And the voice communications features will be further extended to the desktops. From their Microsoft desktop interface, people can manage voice communications, such as checking voice and fax messages, or click to call from their buddy list. And they will be able to see "presence" of the colleagues, so as to know whether they are available, and what is the best way to contact them. This is realized by integrating Avaya Communication Manager/Avaya Modular Messaging and Microsoft® Office Communicator. Avaya Modular Messaging is an industry leading Unified Messaging solution.

The Avaya solution, comprising of Avaya IP Softphone, unified messaging, and conferencing applications, will be installed in the new site of Beijing Ditan Hospital, which is expected to be put into use in June of 2008.

Staff who are working from home, or on business trip, can "bring" their office phone features with them, with the help of Avaya IP Softphone installed on laptops. As long as there are internet connections, they can easily use all the phone features, as if they are sitting before their desks.

With Avaya Meeting Exchange, the hospital can easily schedule and manage personal conference calls for better knowledge sharing and collaboration. In addition to providing market-leading audio conferencing features and scalability, Meeting Exchange offers practical administrative, scheduling, and reporting tools that make it easy to schedule conferences, notify participants, monitor conferences in progress, and generate detailed reports.

Ditan Hospital will also set up a customer contact center with 20 agents, and all of them will have Avaya 4600 series IP Phones. They will hand inquiries from patients or their relatives around the nation. And in case there is the need to involve experts of the hospital, they can easily conference them in with the phone.

Dinesh Malkani, General Manager of Avaya China, said, "We are pleased that Beijing Ditan Hospital has chosen Avaya for this significant project. Hospitals in China are keen to enhance services to patients, and they have realized that the communications systems can play a key role. Avaya will bring leading communications technologies and expertise, which we have gained from serving customers around the world, to serve China hospitals."
