The Institute of Technical Education (ITE) has teamed up with Avaya to develop the ITE-Avaya Unified Communications Technologies Centre at ITE College West.

  • In-campus training facility and advanced certification designed to support better skills training and opportunities for students

SINGAPORE – The Institute of Technical Education (ITE) has teamed up with Avaya, a global provider of business communications and collaboration systems and services, to develop the ITE-Avaya Unified Communications Technologies Centre at ITE College West. In addition to setting up the training facility, Avaya will also assist ITE by providing advanced training and certifications to equip the teaching faculty with adequate skills and tools in the field of IP Telephony and Unified Communication Technologies. Over 160 ITE students from the National ITE Certificate (Nitec) in Mobile Systems & Services course will benefit from this partnership annually.

The Avaya solution for ITE was delivered by the Avaya Connect Platinum Partner Jebsen and Jessen.

The centre is designed to provide students with hands-on-training in a converged and highly simulated environment that will enable students to setup, configure, test and troubleshoot video, data, and Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) networks and application services.

Dr Yek Tiew Ming, Principal, ITE College West, said, "Communications technologies have evolved in the past years, from the plain old telephone to emails and video conferencing, from Internet technologies to data communications systems. Unified Communication Systems integrate all these technologies and have become more widely deployed. There is a clear need for trained technicians to set up, manage and maintain such systems. Partnership with leading industry players like Avaya is one of the strategies adopted by ITE to enable the students to keep pace with rapid changes in the global economic and technology landscape."

ITE's Unified Communication Centre utilizes a range of Avaya solutions for training, including Avaya Midsize Enterprise Solution (MES R6.0), Avaya G450 Media Gateway, Avaya Desktop Video Device (ADVD), Avaya Video Conferencing Solution (AVCS 1040), Avaya Ethernet Routing Switch 4548GT, Avaya One-X Communicator, and Avaya 9611 IP Telephones. This specially designed collaboration framework cuts across user application devices, network infrastructure and business and social applications making it a comprehensive collaboration and training environment that challenges students to work in a real-life business environment.

Pamela Tham, Country Director Singapore, Avaya said, "The need for Unified Communications technologies has never been more important to the success of an organization. As a trusted partner to more than 5,000 educational institutions globally, Avaya understands the unique challenges schools and institutions face. We believe that experiential learning is key to enabling the development of Singapore’s future technology leaders and are committed to providing our young leaders with the right skills, tools and the experience to succeed in a highly competitive environment."

Mobile technology and cloud computing coupled with the rapid proliferation of devices like smartphones, iPads and tablets, are helping fuel the rising Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) trend. Unified Communications and collaboration will be seen as being critical to corporate success as companies in Singapore compete globally in an environment that demands them to stay 'always on' and 'always connected.'

This announcement highlights Avaya's commitment to bringing The Power of We™ to customers around the globe to help drive faster collaboration, smarter decisions and better business results.
